It's funny how Cinco de Mayo has become a bigger deal in the U.S. than in Mexico.
Many people aren't even aware of its significance. No, it's not Mexican Independence Day, as many may believe... It's actually a commemoration of the Mexican army's victory over the French during the Franco-Mexican war in 1862!
Okay it wasn't really a victory... but the 2,000 rag-tag soldiers fighting for Mexico basically forced the 6,000 men from the French army to withdraw less than 24 hours after storming the city of Puebla.
In a nutshell, although the Mexican army was outnumbered & poorly equipped to go into battle, they were able to stand strong against France, forcing the French to raise a white flag first.
And that, dear friends, is the reason why we celebrate the 5th of May!
So why is the PR Whores Online Reputation Management Firm blogging about Cinco de Mayo ? Here's why-- because for the thousands (or maybe millions) of us who will be taking part in debaucherous activities today, it is imperative that we do not celebrate to excess...for the sake of our reputations!
With that being said, here are 3 reasons why extravagant Cinco celebrations could be detrimental to your image:
1) The paparazzi are everywhere. You don't have to be a celebrity to fall victim to candid pictures taken by fellow margarita-drinkers who you may or may not know... People lovvvvve to take pictures (especially when there are adult libations involved), and you never know where those photos will end up. Wouldn't you hate to wake up tomorrow to find pics of yourself in a drunken stupor, polluting your Facebook news feed and Instagram home page? Yikes. Hopefully your hair will have at least looked nicely tousled... and let's pray everyone noticed your killer outfit more than your inebriated facial expressions!
2) You may inadvertently become a movie star overnight. With the majority of adults carrying smart phones these days, chances are someone will break out the video camera on their mobile device and capture you and your crew's gregarious shenanigans. Next thing you know, your low-budget "movie" has gone viral on YouTube and viewers worldwide will be laughing uncontrollably at you...and not with you. Remember the curling iron hair tutorial video that totally bonked, but went viral because it was hilarious? That could happen to you.
3) Your hometown is a lot smaller than you think. We live in Atlanta, and while most believe it to be a "big city," it's actually not. You know how we know? Because meeting others in Atlanta is like playing the "6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon" game. Everyone you meet knows at least one person you know, are related to, or have dated. What that means is, people talk. It's always good to be mindful of your behavior (especially in alcohol establishments) because you never know who will be gossiping about you and your seemingly harmless actions at the water cooler tomorrow. Just a heads up.
Don't get us wrong...the PR Whores aren't saying you SHOULDN'T enjoy Cinco de Mayo ... we're merely advising you to be vigilant about your surroundings as well as what you do or say while you're out celebrating.
As a public relations company we've dealt with quite a bit of unfortunate incidents which have required immediate attention to preserve a company's (or high-profile individual's) reputation on the internet. Don't let those unfortunate incidents happen to you.
Our motto at PR Whores for this pseudo-holiday is simply this: "Think-o before you drink-o on Cinco."
Let the fiesta begin!

Reese's Pieces: Why This Legally Blonde Star is Eating Her Words Following a Recent Arrest
Reese Witherspoon ’s “award winning”
performance as a concerned wife this past weekend landed her a less than
prestigious seat in Atlanta’s jail.
Atlanta’s rise in the film industry in
recent years has brought great economic benefit to Georgia, but will this
benefit be coupled with negative press for many important people involved? For
Reese Witherspoon it is yet to be determined.
Witherspoon apologized this week after her
run-in with the cops early last Friday morning. What began as a common weekend occurrence
in the lively city of Atlanta, ended up sounding like a scene from an emotional
Witherspoon drama-- The actress got a little out of hand (verbally) with a police officer while her husband, Jim Toth, was being arrested for a DUI.
Having had time to sober up,
Witherspoon apologized profusely for her behavior.
“I do want to say, I clearly had one
drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said,” the
actress said in a statement. “It was definitely a scary situation and I was
frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the
officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police,
and I'm very sorry for my behavior.”
Witherspoon,
whose earlier films include Legally Blonde
and Sweet Home Alabama, won a shelf
full of awards, in addition to her performance as June Carter Cash in Walk the Line.
Witherspoon was the latest actress to be crowned
“America's Sweetheart” on the heels of Meg Ryan and Julia Roberts. Yet in
person, neither one of these two actresses are known for being sweet or light
on her feet. Ryan is quiet and introverted while Roberts has a biting whit and
doesn’t seem to “suffer a fool.”
So who is Witherspoon really? Is she the charmer from Sweet
Home Alabama or the entitled star on display in that matter-of-fact police
report last weekend in Atlanta?
“It's a PR nightmare ,” Paul Dergarabedian
says, Chief Analyst at Hollywood.com,
“particularly for a star who's not known as being edgy. But it definitely
raises her profile right now, for better or for worse.”
Still, the damage is done, and there's no undoing it, says
Janice Min, editor in chief of the Hollywood Reporter.
“It's a terrible
thing to happen to someone with this sort of image. She's not 22. She's a
mother of three. Thank God they didn't kill someone. It's a perfect storm of
terrible: the time of night, the way she's reported to have behaved, and her
using celebrity as a way out."
"In terms of her career, it comes at a
vulnerable point," Min says. "She hasn't had a major blockbuster in
quite a while. For the movie she's doing right now, it creates problems because
the narrative will be about her being arrested while she was filming it. I
thought her apology was as good as you can get. She said the right things. But
an apology can't erase the facts. It's in such stark contrast to the public
perception of her."
The facts have been laid on the table, and
Ms. Witherspoon has been found guilty... But are there ways to diminish this
story’s impact on public opinion?
Our team of public relations strategists believes there are. PR Whores specializes in Negative PR Management for celebrities, leaders, businesses or anyone who has suffered
a “PR nightmare ” and needs help getting out of their recent unflattering predicament.

PR Whores : Taking Strides Toward Recovery in Spite of the Boston Marathon Bombings
The PR Whores Online Reputation Management team hopes to spread this bittersweet message today: As Americans we cannot let the Boston Marathon of 2013 be known as “a
Boston Massacre.”
Thousands of friends, family members and loved ones
gathered to support, celebrate and cheer on their favorite Boston Marathon runners on Monday April 15th... When two explosions went off -- 2 bombs to be exact. In the course of those few moments yesterday, unexpected mass confusion abruptly
hit Boston.
3 deaths (including an 8-year old child) and more than 170 related
injuries quickly pushed people and hospitals to unite and serve together to help
those brothers, sisters, and youth in need.
Facebook timelines, Twitter feeds, YouTube
videos, Instagram pictures, social media hashtags, phone calls, text messages, sirens, and fear
were all at their max in the American Northeast.
As public relations professionals at the PR Whores ORM firm we strongly believe that in spite of all this uproar, we Americans will not be
shaken! The question is, “Will we let this day in history be spoken of in such
a way that it affects our mindsets about liberty and the pursuit of daily community
and happiness?”
We answer this question with a resounding "No!" Run your marathons Boston, Massachusetts... And let’s
join together as citizens, cities, event planners and governing bodies to ensure
more precautions are taken before and during high traffic events going forward.
It’s in moments like these that our team here at PR Whores sees great opportunity for professional writers , bloggers , social
media and marketing experts to utilize their "gifts of gab" to impact history and public
opinion in a positive light by combating negative press online with a
perspective that offers consistent hope and a commitment to moving past this tragedy with
unity and an optimistic outlook.
We hope and pray hardship does not come to you or your family,
business, project or brand. If negative press does come your way at any point (as it does for some), just know that you have a team of devoted professionals and
genuine people at PR Whores whom can help you manage your bad press online .

optimization professionals can work to organically (not to mention quickly) make your

Our thoughts & prayers go out to all who have been affected by the Boston Marathon bombings.

PR Whores Asks: Could "Gay" Be the New "Black?"
Gay couples . Gay rights . Gay marriage . In many states, these phrases (and actions) have become more socially acceptable. In some states, it's still frowned upon.
The Los Angeles Times reported early Friday morning that the Supreme Court seemed willing this week to restore marital rights to gays and lesbians in California ... but appeared uncomfortable legalizing same - sex marriage nationwide .
Those of us who claim to be "proud Americans" who live in a "free country" may not feel uncomfortable with same sex marriage being legal across the country, however.
CNN reiterated this week that 9 states currently allow same sex marriage ... so why is it that our 41 other states can't be in favor of it as well? After all, we are the UNITED States, aren't we?
After coming across this highly-debated topic while at work, the PR Whores Online Reputation Management firm predicts that based on this ongoing controversy, the Supreme Court may have an urgent need for improving their image on the internet sometime very soon.
With that being said, here are 3 major reasons why the Supreme Court could benefit from Online Reputation Management immediately following the recent arguments made both for and against gay marriage in all 50 states :
1) President Barack Obama backs civil unions . After previously believing the act of marriage was only to be performed between a man and a woman, President Obama later chose to back civil union rights , which provided many gay and lesbian couples with several of the same privileges of heterosexual couples . If the leader of our country can open his mind to the idea of same sex marriage for Americans ...then why would the Supreme Court rule against this right for 41 other states? For the 120,000 currently married gay / lesbian couples ... this may seem like a no-brainer for other states to jump on the bandwagon. If they don't, all fingers may point the blame to the deeply divided members of the Supreme Court .
2) 54% of Americans believe same sex couples should have the right to legally wed. This significant statistic was taken from a recent CBS News poll... and at 54%, that is technically more than half of us residing in the U.S. who have this opinion. Should the Supreme Court rule to prevent ALL 50 states from legalizing same sex marriage, more than half of Americans could become disgruntled over this decision... which could in turn provoke a series of protests & riots nationwide. If such pandemonium does take place, whom else would Americans blame, but the Supreme Court ? Not a favorable outcome for the Court's reputation... at least in our opinion at the PR Whores firm it isn't.
3) Same - sex marriage is already legal NATIONWIDE in 11 countries across the globe. As Americans we are proud of our flag, our right to vote and even the opportunity to exercise our freedom of speech. We are so proud of being Americans sometimes that there's even a rumor out there that Europeans don't like us (could this be true?!). But as Americans if same sex marriage ISN'T legalized in all 50 states... will we continue to exude that same patriotic pride for our "free country?" Chances are, maybe not.
Let's put it this way: If the Supreme Court rules in favor of same sex marriage for the entire nation, those who helped make that decision will be viewed as heroes. If the Supreme Court decides against it though, their image as a whole could be viewed negatively for quite some time.
Online Reputation Management in cases like these can help improve a company 's (or a major governing body's) image on the internet so bad press won't dictate your reputation on the web .
Businesses who benefit from ORM the services most include:
-- restaurants
-- car dealerships
-- medical practices
-- law firms
Don't get us wrong... the Supreme Court may never need to utilize the digital marketing strategies of our PR Whores team... but we're ready for them (or any other potential clients) in the meantime.
Here's to making that "Rainbow Connection!"

PR Whores : Tattoos Are Forever But Bad Press Online Doesn't Have to Be!
Remember that famous (or infamous) dragon tattoo Angelina Jolie had on her arm... in honor of her former lover, Billy Bob Thornton ?
Well as many of you know, Angelina has had that name removed since the two parted ways years ago.
The thing most of us don't realize about tattoos is this... No matter whether you have them covered up or removed, they are indeed FOREVER.
This means that (depending on who your cover-up tattoo artist is) if you get branded with ink to signify an important event or a person in your life and you have it concealed or removed because the tattoo no longer reflects your beliefs/passion... it will still be present on your body in some capacity.
Not only are you stuck with what's now considered "a mistake" for eternity... but you will continually have people asking you "What does that tattoo mean?" or even, "What used to be there in place of that ugly scar?"
What's even worse is if you have something, say, like an ex's name on your body... even if you attempt to cover it up or have it removed, the next person who becomes the new love of your life may be haunted by the dreaded thought of, "Hmmm... I must really not be that special."
In the case of your company's reputation on the internet , however, the PR Whores find the opposite to be true. That's because we have the appropriate digital marketing & PR skill set in place to ensure your business isn't eternally plagued by bad customer reviews or a negative public legal record.
At the PR Whores Online Reputation Management Firm we implement several strategies to improve your image on the web including:
-- videos highlighting your company history & current staff
-- blogs about the benefits your products/services offer
-- press releases profiling your humanitarian efforts or contributions to the community
-- positive customer testimonials & rave reviews from clients
-- a multitude of other social media posts which provide nearly-viral (and yet extremely flattering) exposure for your business
There's a joke out there that goes a little something like this:
Q: Where's the best place to hide a dead body?
A: On the second page of Google.
We're relaying this corny joke to you because it's true... A recent study proves that 94% of Google users only click on results which appear on the first page.
Now once you have an immense presence on the Information Superhighway that's comprised of nothing but good publicity about you or your company (which will dominate the first handful of Google search results pages by the way), those menial tidbits of negative press will quickly disappear into the depths of cyberspace (you know, where they hide the dead bodies).
And when you continue to utilize Online Reputation Management services long-term, your image on the internet will do nothing but become even more stellar... which in turn means more clients/customers, more sales, and more revenue for your business.
So maybe Angelina Jolie can live peacefully without the words "Billy Bob" etched onto her left shoulder... but she may still be punished by the excruciating pain of having that tattoo removed or covered up, the continual gossip from media & papparazzi about it, or the reminder from her heartthrob husband Brad Pitt that Billy Bob still exudes a presence on Angelina's beautiful body (and there are lots of women out there who really think he's special).
Don't let your company be punished by something that isn't "forever." With a little time and the diligent help of our PR Whores ORM Firm we can improve your image online and you can continue to grow your business.
And having a successful business...thanks to your proactive efforts to improve your online reputation , my friends, IS forever.

PR Whores : Put on Your "Contact" Lenses When it Comes to Networking
Remember that cheesy cliche, "It's not what you know, it's WHO you know?"
Well the PR Whores will admit... this saying holds true, especially when it comes to having a good reputation both online and off the internet .
Having a good network of people & companies whom can vouch for your products & services can go a long way when it comes to growing your business or client / customer roster.
Since most of us at our ORM firm are from Atlanta (or the outskirts), we have a strong network of individuals & local businesses whom we recommend on a regular basis. And after putting our heads together during a recent brainstorming session, we came up with a list of 5 solid contacts you should always have in your hometown.
Even if you're not from GA the same could apply in your community:
1) A reliable attorney -- Let's face it. We're humans, and it is definitely possible to have a run-in with the law at some point in our lives... whether it's a car accident (that of course, wasn't your fault) , an injury at work , or a Botox - treatment - gone - bad type of experience. Attorneys in Atlanta seem to be easy to find.. but the key is finding a group of aggressive lawyers you can trust to assist you with your legal situation efficiently. Our preference of attorneys whom we can rely on the most can be found at K & W Legal . Their company slogan proudly proclaims that they provide "Big firm results with small firm attention" and they adhere to that motto. One of our PR Whores writers has had a very positive experience (we won't go into details) in the past, and has recommended the K & W Legal team for legal claims for the past 3 years.
2) A company who can help with web sites & web design -- One of our PR Whores came across an article recently which explained that 85% of Valentine's Day restaurant reservations were made based on doing a Google search prior to calling that particular food venue. What does that imply?! That your web site serves as your front line when it comes to people who are searching for your particular products or services . So in order to have a solid web site with a compelling & engaging appearance we suggest you definitely invest in a knockout web design company , like what we did. So who do we recommend as an awesome web design company here in Atlanta ? We like the guys over at Fanatic Supermedia . Not only did they create our amazing PR Whores logo ... they also turned around our web site design in less than one week!
3) A network of fitness /health gurus -- If you haven't met any of our PR Whores consultants face-to-face, then we'll just preface our personal encounters with you by saying this: We are definitely into working out / getting in shape / eating nutritious food . The PR Whores strongly believe in looking & living healthy ... from the Montel Williams HealthMaster juicer in our breakroom , to the supplements we take daily , to the group trips we take to the gym during our lunch breaks! For our favorite pre-workout supplements & clean eating recipes we turn to the fitness experts at ATL Fitness Club . Not only will these guys write you weekly meal plans, but they will give you customized pointers for your workout routine and even suggest the appropriate supplements you should take to get the best results. Who needs a personal trainer when you can have the complete support of the gym rats behind ATL Fitness Club ? Check them out when you have a chance: ATLFitnessClub.com .
4) A high-quality printing company -- Having impressive promotional & marketing materials to spread the message about your business is super important.. and sometimes entrepreneurs don't realize just how vital it is. When we need flyer printing , PR Whores business cards made, or even posters & mailers printed for our firm we always lean on the team over at Clash Graphics . They have a really helpful in-house design team and their turnaround time is light-speed quick. Sometimes we pick up our print orders from Clash Graphics the same day we order them. How's that for fast turnaround time for printing ?
5) A local business where you can order food & catering -- Our annual calendar at PR Whores is constantly modified by unexpected (or unplanned) events...
- a death in the family
- a national holiday (that we forgot was coming up)
- an impromptu business meeting
- the birth of a coworker's baby
- a colleague's recent birthday/engagement/anniversary
When this happens, we like to celebrate at our office with a big splash... which means we are frequently in need of catering, delivered lunches, & presents which can bring family & friends even closer together (especially during the holidays). For our most dependable (and delicious) food orders we can count on the folks at HoneyBaked Ham in Douglasville . They provide on-site delivery, lunch catering (with healthy options too), and even Christmas gift orders for the biggest, juiciest, most-talked-about-at-the-dinner-table hams. We love them. Year round.
So there you have it. Five companies in the Atlanta metro area whom we often refer to other clients/family/friends when they're in search of the most ideal contact in that particular industry.
Are we saying that these companies are the best for your area? Not necessarily. But what we are saying is... WHO you know in your hometown is definitely an advantage for you and your company when it comes to building or having a good reputation .
Being viewed in a positive light is not only crucial for your business online , but it's extremely instrumental in growing your referral base .
The moral of this long story (finally, right?) is this-- Online Reputation Management from the PR Whores can make your business look sexy online , but it is also necessary to ensure that your customers & clients are satisfied enough with your company to refer you by word of mouth.
Here's to putting in (or utilizing) your "contact" lenses!

PR Whores : "Ship" Happens! Why Carnival Cruise Lines May Now Need ORM
Vacations out to sea which were once regarded as a luxury excursion seem to have now lost their luster, thanks to Carnival Cruise Lines.
That's because for the second time in one week... ANOTHER Carnival ship has experienced problems during a cruise, cutting thousands of vacationers' trip a bit short.
ABC reports that the Carnival Legend, which was lingering off the coast of Honduras on Thursday night, has been unable to sail at optimal speed because of a "technical problem."
Passengers aboard the Carnival Legend were supposed to be visiting Grand Cayman Island today, but the stop at that port of call was cancelled so the ship could ease its way back to its home port of Tampa, Florida.
Meanwhile... just 1,500 miles away passengers on board the Carnival Dream ship are being FLOWN home instead of continuing with the remainder of their journey at sea. Their cruise was cut short as well this week, because the Dream stalled at a dock in St. Maarten on Wednesday with what was reported to be a "mechanical problem."
Now with all that being said... this is where the PR Whores firmly believe that Carnival Cruise Lines may need some Online Reputation Management to bounce back from "shippy" situation (pun intended).
Here are 3 major topics which would definitely need some work, considering all the negative press Carnival is receiving from the media across the globe:
1) A Not-So-Splendid Bathroom Situation. In a previous (yet recent) cruise "nightmare" thousands of passengers aboard the Carnival Splendor were stranded for EIGHT days at sea because of a ship engine fire... and they were forced to float at high seas in the dark without food or power, much less working bathrooms. The most horrific stories being told by passengers are those which include the broken restroom facilities, the stench of rotten food & being fed mayo sandwiches for days on end. Online Reputation Management efforts in this type of dilemma couldn't do anything but HELP Carnival Cruise Lines at this point. As strong content writers in the public relations industry the PR Whores would execute several aggressive campaigns highlighting the glamour, the smorgasbord of food & pampered treatment passengers typically experience from cruise ship vacations. We would also launch several press releases, videos and marketing strategies focusing on the beauty of Carnival's designated ports of call and the thousands of tourist attractions & activities available upon arrival at each destination. All this could be done order to suppress (as quickly as possible) all the bad publicity about these last few vacation debacles.
2) Spam, Cold Showers & Frustration. As the media continues to circulate "new findings" from each cruise ship dilemma and its ongoing investigations, more and more passenger stories are emerging which, of course, are not painting Carnival Cruise Lines as a whole in a good light. The biggest advantage of Online Reputation Management is that Negative PR Management Firms like ours are solely dedicated to defending and protecting the image of a company or individual. So while passengers keep mentioning tidbits of information like choking down cans of spam, taking cold showers in the dark, and surviving off of Pop Tarts until they reached land, the PR Whores in this type of crisis would bring all the positive attributes of Carnival Cruise Lines to light... Like the fact that 4.5 million people take a Carnival cruise each year. There has to be at LEAST a few million vacationers out there who have something wonderful to say about their journeys at sea. If they could provide us with great testimonials, we would promptly be able to counter this traumatizing situation with rave reviews in conjunction with other positive PR efforts.
3) Fear of Taking a Cruise in the Future. This happens all the time after deadly plane crashes occur. The general public instantaneously becomes mortified at the thought of leaving the ground even with their own two feet, and airline companies suffer as a result of an alleged uncontrollable (not to mention fatal) situation. In the next year, Carnival Cruise Lines is at serious risk of losing business because of this recent string vacation mishaps. If the media continues to broadcast passenger accounts of their cruise-gone-awry experiences, Carnival's reputation both off and online will resemble one of their malfunctioning sea vessels... STRANDED WITHOUT ANY POWER.
So let's just put it this way... Unfortunate events occur for many companies as well as people at some point in time. The idea though, is to find the silver lining in that negative moment, and exploit the hell out of it. And that, my friends, is what Carnival Cruise Lines may want to start looking into sooner than later... before their profits sink below sea level.
When "ship" happens, Online Reputation Management can help.

PR Whores : Hold the Phone! Why Apple Has Hang-ups About the New Samsung Galaxy S4
In just a few short hours (at 7pm EST to be exact), Samsung will officially announce the launch of its newest smart phone , the Galaxy S4 .
ABC reports this new Android device will have:
-- a larger screen
-- higher resolution
-- a quad-core processor
-- new software features (including eye-scrolling)
But just ahead of this new Samsung product roll-out, Apple's Senior VP of worldwide marketing has reportedly been criticizing Android, as well as Samsung (by association).
Mashable published a story today discussing Phil Schiller 's (Apple's SVP) attacks on these competitor smart phones, using arguments like "Android is often given as a free replacement for a feature phone and the experience isn't as good as an iPhone."
Whether the PR Whores agree with Schiller's statements or not... we definitely believe the Galaxy S4 itself could use a little Online Reputation Management in order to keep negative products reviews or other smart phone backlash about the newest Android family member at bay.
Typically at the PR Whores Online Reputation Management Firm we focus on protecting companies as well high-profile individuals from negative publicity on the internet, but we are definitely willing to help the helpless... in this case, a new phone that doesn't literally have the "voice" or human capabilities to defend itself.
So here are 3 ways we could boost the reputation of the Samsung Galaxy S4 --
1) Press Releases Galore. One of the quickest ways to generate immediate (and positive) buzz is to publish press releases in order for TV stations, radio personalities & print media companies to become informed of what's going on in the world. The PR Whores would capitalize on this by creating an aggressive press release campaign, launching one every hour for one week straight... in order to begin turning heads & instigating "shop talk" about the new S4.
2) Social Media Inundation. The PR Whores are well aware of the powers which reside in social media content, so we would have our team of writers flood high-traffic social media platforms with product features, facts, images & reasons why everyone should go out and buy the new Samsung smart phone. We would also blog continuously about the same topics...since studies now show that businesses who blog tend to receive 55% more traffic to their web sites. That's not a bad ROI for online reputation management if your digital marketing efforts ultimately land prospective customers to your company site, right?!
3) Channeling in on YouTube. Since YouTube is owned by Google, many of you will not be surprised to hear that one of the fastest ways to show up on page 1 of search engine sites is with videos. The PR Whores could generate an ongoing series of YouTube videos surrounding the Galaxy S4 and its rumored new features. We'd also get consumer insight on camera along with highlights about the phone's new programs & apps. A laundry list of YouTube videos regarding the new Galaxy S4 would definitely provide more positive exposure on the internet... and could possibly have iPhone fanatics considering crossing over to the "Droid side." Good idea? We think so.
What we're trying to say here is... it's not just companies & celebrities who can benefit from our online reputation management services. Cell phones need love too... and the PR Whores offers the most effective marketing strategies to help just about anyone (or anyTHING).
