PR Whores : Where There's (White) Smoke, There's Fire! Why the New Pope Could Use ORM

Thanks to continuous media coverage, the internet & the viral tendencies of social media, you don't have to be Catholic to know a new pope has been elected.

CNN reported this afternoon that Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio from Argentina was selected as the new pope who will succeed Benedict XVI, who recently retired on February 11th of this year.

Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, who will assume the name of Pope Francis, allegedly chose his new name in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi.

With that being said, the PR Whores Online Reputation Management Firm has 3 strong reasons why the new pope himself could use a little ORM .

Call it "pushing the envelope" a bit... but hey. Why not ride the coattails of one of the biggest trending topics of the day (that's how getting to the top of the search engine rankings works anyway)?

This is how current events become historic events, not to mention... how they make for the best water cooler talk at the office the following day. So here goes...

3 REASONS THE NEW POPE COULD BENEFIT FROM ONLINE REPUTATION MANAGEMENT (from the PR Whores of course):

1) Naming Yourself After an Infamous Catholic Saint.

Pope Jorge, or Pope Francis, has selected his new name after Saint Francis of Assisi. Based on historical data, St. Francis was born during a time which was considered one of the most corrupt in the history of the church. It was so bad during those times that many people believed bishops and priests were guilty of extorting money or keeping prostitutes (or both). Having been to Assisi myself, the streets of this Italian village are flooded with souvenir vendors selling St. Francis memorabilia including figurines of St. Francis holding beers in an inebriated state, pictures of the saint entertaining prostitutes, and other 'interesting' tchotchkes. The PR Whores aren't insinuating that St. Francis condoned or even participated in this type of lifestyle, but the trinkets you find in this cobblestone-laden town of Italy implicate otherwise. Just throwing that information out there.

2) Publicity Surrounding the Former Pope is Less Than Glamorous.

Media reports regarding Pope Benedict's reason for retirement state that he was stepping down because of his "failing health." Several others in the press, however, insist that Pope Benedict bowed out of his papal role based on the decades of sex abuse scandals ... which allegedly tainted the image of the Catholic church prior to Benedict XVI stepping into the position of the pope . Even a CBS news anchor was quoted for reporting that the next pope would be "inheriting a church in turmoil." The PR Whores aren't necessarily asserting that the Catholic Church truly is in a tumultuous state, but if it were, Online Reputation Management could keep that not-so-flattering media under reasonable control on the World Wide Web.

3) News Associated with the Vatican Make Negative Implications About the Children of Homosexual Couples.

In an article published by the Vatican Insider in January 2013, reporters discuss "the issues faced by children that have been raised by same-sex couples." In this story, the writer sites some very startling statistics such as--

-- 12% of children raised by same-sex couples contemplate suicide.

-- 40% of children raised by same-sex couples are more inclined to be unfaithful in relationships.

-- 28% of children raised by same-sex couples are unemployed more often.

-- 40% of children raised by same-sex couples will contract a sexually-transmitted disease at some point.

-- 19% of children raised by same-sex couples are more likely to visit a psychotherapist.

In this day and age where gay couples and civil unions are becoming more socially acceptable as well as legal in some states of the U.S., the PR Whores don't believe that standing behind stories like these would help draw positive publicity to the Catholic Church. Again, just throwing that out there.

So make a long story even longer-- the PR Whores have a multitude of reasons why Pope Francis could definitely benefit from Online Reputation Management . Not only would we generate enough written content to flood the internet with dazzling reasons why the name "Francis" was the perfect name to assume... We would also publish hundreds of press releases & blogs that would focus on Cardinal Jorge 's humanitarian acts & good deeds in Argentina. Additionally, we would steer clear of same-sex children stories/statistics, and focus more on the charities as well as the communities who have been positively impacted by efforts of the Catholic Church.
